Turtle Class follows the Semi-Formal Explore Pathway, where we celebrate individuality and recognise that children learn best in a variety of ways. Learning takes place through sensory experiences, play-based learning, and meaningful interactions that are tailored to the needs of our pupils.

Our mornings begin with regulation opportunities carefully planned to support a calm and successful transition between home and school. These regulation opportunities are embedded throughout the day to ensure our children are emotionally regulated, engaged, and ready to learn.

Our curriculum focuses on developing early communication and cognition skills, exploring sensory experiences, and—most importantly—having fun. We predominantly use play-based activities to engage our pupils, allowing them to learn in a developmentally appropriate and motivating way.

My Communication lessons are highly sensory-based and are designed to create functional communication opportunities throughout the day. We explore stories through sensory storytelling and use our daily routines to support and develop communication skills in meaningful contexts. Communication is supported using Makaton, visual supports, and core boards, ensuring all children have access to a voice and can communicate in ways that work best for them.

My Thinking and Problem Solving sessions are play-based and investigative, encouraging curiosity and exploration. Children are supported to explore cause and effect, make choices, solve problems, and develop early thinking skills through hands-on, engaging activities.
